One Pokeball to rule them all

Picture
Materials:
  • Bernat Blanket Yarn
    • Red x1
    • White x1
    • Black x1
  • Size Q Hook
  • Polyfiber Filling
  • Tapestry Needle


Notes:
The project is made using 2 strands of blanket yarn. You can get 1 ball of each color, and split them into separate cakes using a ball winder or even wrapping them by hand.
The red and white portion of thePokeball are made in continuous rounds. The black center is made using a Ch 1 method to help create a more seamless look. Light sewing required as you’ll make the button separately and attach it to a finished ball.

  • Stitch (st)
  • Chain (ch)
  • Single Crochet (sc)
  • Half-Double Crochet (hdc)
  • Increase (inc)
  • Decrease (dec)
  • Repeat all instruction between the asterisks until you reach the end of your round (repeat ** around)



Pattern:

Body
In Red
  1. Work 8 sc into a magic circle (8)
  2. Inc in each st (16)
  3. *1 sc, inc* repeat ** around (24)
  4. Sc in each st around (24)
  5. *2 sc, inc* repeat ** around (32)
  6. *3 sc, inc* repeat ** around (40)
  7. Sc in each st around (40)
  8. *4 sc, inc* repeat ** around (48)
 9-12. Sc around (48)
    13. Sc 47, sl st in last st, attach black yarn (47 sc + 1 sl st)
    14. Ch 1, hdc in next st (start of round 14) and in the next 47 st, sl st to first hdc and attach white yarn (48 hdc)
    15. Ch 1 (count as stitch) sc in next st and around (48)
16-19. Sc around (48)
    20. *4 sc, dec* repeat ** around (40)
    21. Sc in each st around (40)
    22. *3 sc, dec* repeat ** around (32)
    23. *2 sc, dec* repeat ** around (24)
    24. Sc in each st around (24)
    25. *1 sc, dec* repeat ** around (16)
    *stuff with polyfil*
    26. Dec around (8)

FO, leave long tail for sewing. Using your tapestry needle, thread the tail of your yarn through the front loops of Round 26 and pull tightly closed, weaving in the remaining tail.


Button:
In Black
  1. Work 12 dc into a magic circle (12)
FO, Leave long tail for sewing

In white
  1. Work 12 hdc into a magic circle (12)
FO, Leave long tail for sewing

Assembly:
Using the tail end of the white button, attach it to the front of the black button, weaving in the remaining tail. Using the tail end of the black button, attach it to the center of the Pokeball over where you changed colors to help make it look more seamless.

I'd love to make this for a cat cave and just leave the "button" as an entry hole. Do you think it would hold it's shape at all without stuffing it?
