It's dratini, but huge

Picture
Materials:
  • Bernat Baby Blanket Yarn - Overcast
  • Bernat Baby Blanket Yarn - White
  • Craft Felt - Black, White, Purple
  • DMC Floss - Black, White, Purple
  • Size Q crochet hook (The big blue one)
  • 6mm Crochet hook
  • Sewing Needle
  • At least 32oz of Polyfil
  • Stitch Marker
  • Tapestry Needle

Measurements:

Finished, Dratini measures 55” long with a 7” body diameter and a 11” head diameter.
The weight depends entirely on how much stuffing you use, but it will likely be about 8-10 lbs.

Notes:

Entire Pattern is worked using 2 strands of blanket yarn and in continuous rounds. The body (blue) is made entirely as one piece, with the ears, nose, jewel, and belly sewn on separate. The eyes are made with the craft felt, stitched together using the DMC floss and sewing needle, and then sewn onto the head.
I recommend stuffing with polyfil as often as you can, as it gets difficult to stuff the longer it gets.

Fasten off, leave long tail for sewing

Jewel
Using 6mm hook
  1. Work 8sc in a magic circle

Fasten off, leave long tail for sewing. Stitch on 1 row above the eyes and centered.

Ears

(make 2)
In white - assume turn after each row
  1. Chain 4, sc in 2nd chain from hook and across (3)
  2. Ch 1, inc, 1sc, inc (5)
  3. Ch 1, inc, 2sc, inc (6)
  4. Ch 1, inc, 4sc (6)
  5. Ch 1, inc, 4sc, inc (8)
  6. Ch 1, inc, 7sc (9)
  7. Ch 1, inc, 7sc, inc (11)
  8. Ch 1, inc, 10sc (12)

Continue to sc around the side of the piece and around to give a more “finished” look, adding 2 sc in the corners to make them appear more  pointed.
FO and leave a long tail. Pinch the center of the ears to create a “crease”. This will help a plain ol’ triangle look like Dratini’s fins. Using the tail end of your yarn and a tapestry needle, stitch across the crease to keep its shape and FO, weaving in the remaining tail.

Belly:
Assume (Ch 1, turn) at the end of each row
In white:
  1. Ch 5, sc in 2nd ch from the hook and across (4)
  2. Inc, sc 2, inc (6)
  3-42. Sc across (6)
    43.  Dec, sc 2, dec (4)
 44-45. Sc across (4)
    46.  Dec x2 (2)

Create sc border around entire belly and FO. Using one strand of white blanket yarn and your tapestry needle, stitch the belly onto the front of Dratini, starting 2 rows beneath the nose.

Eyes:
(make 2)
Using Craft Felt:
  • Cut out a large black oval (2)
  • A small white oval (2)
  • A purple “U” shape (2)

Stitch the purple and white pieces onto the black oval using the appropriate colored floss and sewing needle. Make sure you flip one of the purple pieces to the opposite side of the black oval so that you have a left eye and a right eye. Once these are in stitched on, pin them to Dratinis face so they stay in place and, using the black floss and a sewing needle, stitch them onto the face.
